I’m definitely a cyborg.

It’s the start of a brand. new. year.

It really is true that time flies faster and faster as the years go by…and yes, 2010 FLEW by! It was a year that had it’s ups and downs, to be sure, But I have to admit that with all it’s ups and downs, this year was notably better than the year before in a lot of ways, and man… that is all anyone can ask for, am I right?

When last year started I was filled with a renewed sense of empowerment, and a feeling that there is SO much I can control, SO much that is always possible….and I made it a point to do things, BE things, I wanted to do (and BE) whether someone said I could or not!

I think the most drastic of examples is the launching of my clothing line, a*voyce clothing. It was something I always wanted to do and
last year I decided to take the leap of faith and JUST DO IT! There is so much more that it has in store, too… I’m so excited for what 2011 will bring for a*voyce!

Part of the reason why I felt so inspired at the start of 2010 was due to the weekly phone calls I made to my Aunt Eileen…every week… for almost ALL of 2009… She was a compassionate, motivating, validating source of inspiration for me and I credit a lot of the changes I made in my life in 2010 to our talks… those talks that I will always remember and cherish…

(me and my aunt, Thanksgiving 2010)

My family lost my Aunt Eileen two days before Christmas, and although it was devastating… unbelievably heartbreaking…. I want to go into 2011 remembering all the wonderful things she taught me about what is really possible….

I have to say, this is kinda my favorite time of year. I love the sense of renewal, the feeling that you can change anything, DO anything, that refreshing feeling that whatever you didn’t like about last year is officially OVER and a new year is about to begin! I love it!

I’m the queen of New Years Resolutions! I absolutely love them. I honestly have a list (a looong list) of things I want this year to bring! And, why not!? It isn’t ever going to be possible unless you first THINK it can be possible!

my Aunt used to always ask me:

If not NOW, then WHEN?

If not ME, then WHO!?

I’m excited about 2011, and all the possibilities is has in store… and I closed out 2010  being grateful… for my wonderful husband, my amazing parents and family, for all my beautiful friends who mean SO much to me… and for all the great things I have in my life….

OH, and I am also extremely grateful for the resurgence of this gem…(which my mom found somewhere in the Schlink vault) An actual video of my FIRST TV Commercial EVER! My introduction to show biz… I was 3… and super cute. This is a classic for all christmases to come (or not). I present to you… My Ann&Hope commercial!!  Starring Ava (Schlink) Gaudet, 3 years old, and My mom. Playing… my mom.

Deja BOO!

Posted By Ava Gaudet on November 1st, 2010

This Halloween was an EXTRAVAGANZA of candy gorging halloween fun, with not one but THREE halloween costumes to show for it!!

Now, when it comes to halloween costumes, I have one rule: No “sexy” anything. You know what I mean, that super annoying tendency for girls to deconstruct ANY archetype into a “sexy” halloween costume. Like, “I’m going to be a sexy parole officer”, or “I’m going to be a slutty nun” That kind of thing. In fact, I think the Sexy Halloween Costume industry officially went too far with this Naughty Nemo get-up. Yes, Nemo. As in, the CLOWNFISH from the animated children’s movie!! Ugh.

So this year I came up with a few fun costumes with no midriffs or garters involved….

Was there ever such an iconic picture of beauty, grace, and sophistication as Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s? Dressing up like  Holly Golightly made me want to be her forever. Seriously. I borrowed the accessories from my friend Kelle, but was able to finally wear this gorgeous vintage dress I snagged at a Thrift store a few years ago. I really think I’m going to need to find more reasons to wear this dress…and some pearls… and have a long, fancy cigarette holder (even though I don’t smoke) LOVE.

A couple of friends of mine started a T-Shirt company called  OFF KEY TEES (go check them out and prepare to be highly offended. That’s the whole point.) and someone commented that this Tweekerbell T-shirt looked like me! (frankly, I don’t see the resemblance) but it was enough to inspire this halloween costume (and also get a free t-shirt out of the deal ;) ) Here’s the description of the shirt, if this doesnt describe me in this picture I don’t know what does! : “She’s getting up in the years. Those wings aint working like they used to. So she needs a little assistance. TADA, presto abracadabra, now she’s rockin robin, tweak tweak. She’s flying now, but will be crashing hard later. So be it. Who are we to judge. How many of us have been fairies going through a midlife crisis?” HA!

There was a very long period of my life where I would have never considered this a halloween costume!! This was pretty much my daily uniform as very diligent Carolyn Dutra Dancer, and member of the Southern RI Youth Ballet company. Although I felt completely comfy in this little ballerina outfit, I kind of wish I had known the party I was going to was an urban party. I was dancing my heart out to all the amazing Hip Hop and R&B they were playing……and looked like a total nerd.

So another Halloween season is over, and I have to admit, after this marathon weekend, I’m exhausted! Another year to gear up for next time :)

I hope you all had a great Halloween too, and if you have any crazy stories, I’d love to hear ‘em!!

Hey Everyone!

So, I’ve been a little M.I.A lately because I’ve been SUPER busy… been rehearsing 8hrs a day for a two-week-long gig while trying to squeeze in the rest of my life around all the dancing and singing. Doesn’t leave me much time to blog. So, I thought I would just show you guys some things that are cute. Enjoy.

a baby seal!

puppy with a tube on his foot!

a kitten in a can!

really cute hand soap!

a tiny wiener dog on a bun!

cute video!

Ping Pong

It’s all up to you and me
Giving and getting,
keeping it all afloat
Without us,
The ball is a motionless piece of plastic
A pointless sphere.
You can spite me with force, sending it miles out of play
I can surrender my side, in a passive-aggressive display
we can make each other’s purpose one and the same
Eyes can meet in mutual gain
I can make my offence fall gently in your reach
You can make your aim
The center of me
And the volley, sometimes fast, sometimes slow
Perpetuates it’s consistent back-and-forth

We both win.

The Bar

So… I came across this poem (if that’s what you call it) I wrote a while back, and decided to post it. This one was kind of a hit with my circle of friends who can relate to the topic. :)
I don’t know…. maybe I’ll post more poetry from now on?

Slipping into the tiny outfit of

Skin clinging black

My integrity gets stuffed into a bag

to be in purgatory until after clock out

Another night, 8 more hours, another hundred bucks

Biting my tongue, chewing your pompous questions, digesting what’s left of my pride.

I don’t want to talk about where I’m from, the weather, why I’m here

I wouldn’t want to mislead you into thinking I see anything other than

my rent, my cell phone bill, my groceries… when I look into your eyes

My shallow smile, thank you’s of sweet syrup, empty promises to remember anything you just said…

Don’t get it twisted,

that soggy dollar bill you strained to leave me

is the only reason I’m here.

Some nights are better than others

On bad nights I’m deafened by you passively screaming:

To serve you is to be beneath you.

Your self-importance swells every time you realize

my fate lies in that little dotted line

What a playground for the patronizing.

So you smugly sip your mojito and leave me nothing….just because you can…

and I daydream about going to your job to force you to work for free.

On good nights I soothe myself with the comforting certainty:

I’m of superior intelligence. and talent.

And you think it sucks to be me?

But only the brawn of the jaded can muscle enough strength to rise above.

I still care too much to ignore.

Another night, 8 hours gone, another hundred bucks.

Step back into myself

at least until the same time tomorrow….

Karma Cam

My Good friend Shaun Earl came up with an awesome idea for a tv show and entered Oprah Winfrey’s contest to create the next TV star and have your own show!! Shaun is hilarious, and I think his idea for a hidden camera show called “Karma Cam” is brilliant. I also made him promise me that when Oprah picks up his show he’ll hire me to be the girl on the dance floor who loses her weave. :)

Watch, Enjoy, and VOTE !!!

Happy Memorial Day!!!!

Posted By Ava Gaudet on May 31st, 2010

I hope you are all having a wonderful Memorial Day!!!
The weather is gorgeous! Now, put on your sunglasses, grab yourself a drink, float around in a pool somewhere and think about the fact that you’re NOT at work today !! Java knows whats up…

But… don’t forget to take some time to remember all the soldiers who risked their lives defending our country! Today, I’m remembering my two grandfathers… Grandpa Mikaelian was a medic in WWII, and Grandpa Schlink served on the famous USS Intrepid (which is now a museum in NYC) I love and miss them both!!!

Have a great holiday!!!

p.s. Now we can all wear WHITE! :)
