Hey Everyone!

So, I’ve been a little M.I.A lately because I’ve been SUPER busy… been rehearsing 8hrs a day for a two-week-long gig while trying to squeeze in the rest of my life around all the dancing and singing. Doesn’t leave me much time to blog. So, I thought I would just show you guys some things that are cute. Enjoy.

Ping Pong

Posted By Ava Gaudet on August 1st, 2010

It’s all up to you and me
Giving and getting,
keeping it all afloat
Without us,
The ball is a motionless piece of plastic
A pointless sphere.
You can spite me with force, sending it miles out of play
I can surrender my side, in a passive-aggressive display
Or…
we can make each other’s purpose one and the same
Eyes can meet in mutual gain
I can make my offence fall gently in your reach
You can make your aim
The center of me
And the volley, sometimes fast, sometimes slow
Perpetuates it’s consistent back-and-forth

We both win.

The Bar

Posted By Ava Gaudet on July 8th, 2010

So… I came across this poem (if that’s what you call it) I wrote a while back, and decided to post it. This one was kind of a hit with my circle of friends who can relate to the topic. :)
I don’t know…. maybe I’ll post more poetry from now on?

THE BAR

Slipping into the tiny outfit of

Skin clinging black

My integrity gets stuffed into a bag

to be in purgatory until after clock out

Another night, 8 more hours, another hundred bucks

Biting my tongue, chewing your pompous questions, digesting what’s left of my pride.

I don’t want to talk about where I’m from, the weather, why I’m here

I wouldn’t want to mislead you into thinking I see anything other than

my rent, my cell phone bill, my groceries… when I look into your eyes

My shallow smile, thank you’s of sweet syrup, empty promises to remember anything you just said…

Don’t get it twisted,

that soggy dollar bill you strained to leave me

is the only reason I’m here.

Some nights are better than others

On bad nights I’m deafened by you passively screaming:

To serve you is to be beneath you.

Your self-importance swells every time you realize

my fate lies in that little dotted line

What a playground for the patronizing.

So you smugly sip your mojito and leave me nothing….just because you can…

and I daydream about going to your job to force you to work for free.

On good nights I soothe myself with the comforting certainty:

I’m of superior intelligence. and talent.

And you think it sucks to be me?

But only the brawn of the jaded can muscle enough strength to rise above.

I still care too much to ignore.

Another night, 8 hours gone, another hundred bucks.

Step back into myself

at least until the same time tomorrow….

Karma Cam

My Good friend Shaun Earl came up with an awesome idea for a tv show and entered Oprah Winfrey’s contest to create the next TV star and have your own show!! Shaun is hilarious, and I think his idea for a hidden camera show called “Karma Cam” is brilliant. I also made him promise me that when Oprah picks up his show he’ll hire me to be the girl on the dance floor who loses her weave. :)

Watch, Enjoy, and VOTE !!!

Happy Memorial Day!!!!

Posted By Ava Gaudet on May 31st, 2010

I hope you are all having a wonderful Memorial Day!!!
The weather is gorgeous! Now, put on your sunglasses, grab yourself a drink, float around in a pool somewhere and think about the fact that you’re NOT at work today !! Java knows whats up…

But… don’t forget to take some time to remember all the soldiers who risked their lives defending our country! Today, I’m remembering my two grandfathers… Grandpa Mikaelian was a medic in WWII, and Grandpa Schlink served on the famous USS Intrepid (which is now a museum in NYC) I love and miss them both!!!

Have a great holiday!!!

p.s. Now we can all wear WHITE! :)

Bye-Bye BETTY

Posted By Ava Gaudet on April 15th, 2010

http://avagaudet.com/bye-bye-betty

Last night the final episode of UGLY BETTY aired, and I have to say, I’m sad to see it go!

Obviously, I have a personal connection with this… I had the honor of portraying the lovable super-skank “Gina Gambarro” for a few episodes early in the show’s life. Clearly, Gina moved out of the neighborhood (and off the show) a couple of seasons ago, so I’m not trying to claim any real ownership in what was so great about BETTY, but the show did mean a lot to me as an actor and a viewer!

I remember shooting the pilot episode on location in Queens and feeling the buzz of excitement surrounding the show… we were sitting in a tent watching the monitor, and I remember Silvio Horta (the show’s creator) and one of the producers watching a close shot of America Ferrera’s face , they just shook their heads in amazement … “People are going to fall in love with her…” and they were right!!

There are a lot of people talking about why UGLY BETTY was important to television ( here’s one article that I really liked…)

Why UGLY BETTY Mattered

In a time when reality TV and cookie-cutter procedurals were taking over television, BETTY  came on the scene and was a breath of fresh air. Colorful, a little crazy, and totally heartfelt… how could you NOT fall in love with Betty? I always thought she was an inspiration… a smart, ambitious Latina woman who was prettier on the inside than she was on the outside, overcoming resistance and challenge until she became the confident, accomplished professional she was at the end of the show, all the while staying true to herself! Beautiful!! And I don’t think the importance of Justin’s coming-out should be underestimated, either. There are gay teens all across the country who choose to deny who they are while they are in high school because it’s easier for the people around them, their parents, friends and family, to accept. But I’m sure it’s not easy on THEM to feel like it’s not ok to be who they are… Showing Justin’s experience on national prime-time television is one HUGE step forward in promoting tolerance to what homosexual teens go through. Showing Justin have a boyfriend, kiss him, dance with him, and how his family completely accepts and loves him was really great to see!! Thank you, UGLY BETTY for putting that on TV and showing everyone its OK!!

yea, maybe the  story lines got a little over the top at times, but the cast was amazing, it was fun and heartfelt, and I still agree that people will look back on this show as a unique and significant part of TV history… I loved being able to work on this show, the cast was truly wonderful, and I feel honored to have been a part of it.

Bye Bye BETTY!!!! You will be missed!
